Tower of Hauer

I can't believe it's been more than a month since I wrote...in this space anyway. It's been sunny so I've been gardening. Maybe that will be my summer "home" and this over here will be where I spend the winter...watching scifi and reading...

Omega Doom and Blind Fury came on one Rutger Hauer-packed disc, so I watched Blind Fury then sat in front of the television for 84 minutes and read a book. Omega Doom is a ten scene movie [1].

Blind Fury was better the first 26 times when it was one of the films in the Zatoichi series. However, the Americanized and modernized Zatoichi - Nick Parker - totally kicks ass. Like Zatoichi and DareDevil his cane sheaths a sword. The ear/hand coordination training that he receives from Vietnam villagers makes most of his stunts believable - think of a blindfolded Luke Skywalker battling the orb on the Millenium Falcon then keeping the blindfold for all of those battles with Darth. Rutger pulls off the role well. Although, it just makes me want to watch Blade Runner (and my copy is missing! eeeeeeeks).

[1] "x scene movie" - how many scenes it takes to understand the entire movie. Usually, these scenes are interspersed throughout the movie but if it's really bad (as in the case of Nemesis [2]) you only need to watch the first four. In the case of Omega Doom, a couple essential scenes early on and a couple midway were enough to know that robots were fighting each other, the bad ones died, and the good ones lived.

[2] I've blacklisted Albert Pyun because he is responsible for all 4 of the Nemesis movies (4?) and Omega Doom. What do you expect from someone who directs an average of 3 movies per year?
